“The Year of the Phoenix” 2024-2025 is coming to a close, and we have a lot to be proud of and grateful for. We staged two outdoor, site specific productions that returned us and the theatre itself to its roots in the environment. Our October production of Life is a Dream by Calderon de la Barca incorporated the famous “Sun Dial” sculpture at the corner of Beech and W. Collins. The audience occupied the green space while the Grex performed under fading sunlight and finally, by the light of electric lanterns. What was truly special about this production was the involvement of some of our TotP KIDS, who had just completed our first workshop on Greek tragedy. Without them, we would not have been able to cast the play; they literally saved the show!

In January we mounted Ibsen’s A Doll’s House in our Studio Theatre. Our actors turned out beautiful, sensitive, and psychologically realistic performances in the style of 19th century Naturalism. Our audience got to see one of the most significant dramas of the last one hundred fifty years, a play that paved the way for a new style of acting and heralded the modern theatre.
Just last month, we staged the Medea of Euripides using a site at the Fort Caspar Campground as our location. Surrounded by trees, with the Platte River in the background, the sun setting, and a pit fire roaring nearby, the audience experienced this stunning tragedy in a natural environment, and some truly epic performances by our actors.

TotP KIDS is now in its second session! We’ve been working on scenes and monologues from Shakespeare, and have developed an original Commedia Dell’Arte sketch, complete with masks, in the style of the 17th century. Our KIDS will be performing their work at the showcase, and we think you will be quite impressed!

Finally, look for our performance of T.S. Eliot’s “The Waste Land” at the Wyoming Fringe Festival, produced by the Lyric August 8-10. The Fringe was a huge success last year and this year, there will be even more opportunities to see some of the best and most interesting performers and companies from around the state.
