I have always had mixed feelings about this local practice. In our high school theatre, we have two ways to exit the auditorium so those audience members who are uncomfortable with lauding the performers again, may avoid the line. As director, I’ve given in to the tradition, partly due to the nature of high school theatre. I figure if the students are able to hear positive comments (which is usually the case with those who stay to meet and greet), it helps cement their love of performing. 😊 For some, who love theatre with or without the acclaim, or who might be super tired after a run of the show, I support their choice to not make a beeline to the lobby. I’ll be interested to see what your poll says!
